We use Chef Bears Q Gourmet sauces at Bear Restaurant too. The Mango sauce is used mostly for specials, tasting menus, and amuses. All of the sauces are really versatile and easy to use in the spur of the moment. They go great with everything, seafood, pork or chicken. We use the Passion Fruit Mustard as a finishing sauce on the Lamb plate."

Both products feature exotic and all natural ingredients rarely found in other fruit preserves and are an expansion of Q Gourmet’s artisanal Chaloner line that already includes the best-selling plum and onion, Olive and Raspberry Plum marmalades. These products are sold through fine gourmet markets in both Canada and the U.S., where Spencer has exclusive rights to the specialty food line. She will be expanding the new lines throughout the U.S. and Canada this year.

The Chutney is based on the intense natural sweetness and flavour of the Amber Jewel Plums whilst the Olive and Chilli draws it flavour from the Mission Olives where the rich soils and sun drenched slopes of the Stellenbosch Mountains gives them their unique taste.

Olive and Chilli Chicken: Add a bottle Chaloner Olive and Chili preserve rub on lightly seasoned chicken, slow bake 350 for 60 min. Delicious!
Raspberry Plum Smoothie: Add 4 table spoon Chaloner Raspberry Plum jam in a blender with 2 scoops vanilla ice cream,1 cup milk.

The Chaloner Story
More than 15 years ago Perry Chaloner and his family moved from the city of Cape Town on to an idyllic piece of land nestled beneath the Western Cape’s beautiful Stellenbosch Mountains, famed for its wines and viticulture. They christened their farm Falcon’s Nest after the abundance of Peregrine Falcons hovering overhead in search of prey in the grasses.
Chaloner then planted fruit and Olives and Citrus with a focus on sustainable agriculture, using organic fertilization and a “green” low carbon footprint. Passionate about fine food Perry Chaloner started experimenting making jams from old family recipes with fruit grown on the farm. The response from friends was overwhelming and slowly a range of innovative products developed based on the finest farm-grown ingredients.
The Chaloner Olive Marmalade and Plum & Onion Preserve have now become classics and inspired an ever-developing products range. There is no ingredient “substitution” and all the ingredients are sourced as far as possible locally, and always from sources renowned for quality. Many of the products are made to limited volumes simply to avoid compromising quality.
